Kiteboarding is most definitely a favorite activity locally and internationally and even in winter in Cape Town, it is a great activity. Where there is the wind there is a way! Sunset Beach (where Atlantic Palms is located) is the extension of Blouberg beach and is the prime spot for kiteboarders. Big Bay in Blouberg is where the Red Bull King of the Air is held every year!
Who doesn’t love indoor bowling? This is a fun activity for everyone! Grand West Casino has a bowling alley and is just a quick 12km’s drive from Atlantic Palms. If you want to visit the Southern Suburbs in Cape Town you will find ‘Let’s Go Bowling’ in Claremont.
Drink Red Wine in front of a fireplace
Cape Town is known for its exquisite wines and cozy fireplaces! Do you enjoy sipping on a delicious glass of red wine in front of a fireplace in winter? There are plenty of places to choose from. If you decide to travel to Stellenbosch, Tokara has a huge fireplace with beautiful views and they have award winning wines. In and around Cape Town there are plenty of restaurants that are cozy and that come alive in winter.

Try out a local brewery
For the Beer lovers, there are plenty of awesome breweries to try out. Whether you love craft beer or just your old school favorite ‘Castle’ you are sure to find a place where you can relax and enjoy a delicious beer. Devil’s Peak Brewing Company in Salt River is where you will find a range of American- and Belgian-style ales made from the finest ingredients. Jack Black brewery is another great one to visit, they are located in Diep River and is kid-friendly with an entertainment space, they also offer tours by appointment. If you are looking for a more social vibe you can find Beerhouse in Long Street with over 90 different options from 13 countries.
Be a queen and enjoy a high tea with your mom or friends at the Mount Nelson Hotel, Table Bay Hotel or Cape Grace Hotel. These hotels offer a variety of teas with sweet and savory treats to tantalize your taste buds.
Relax in Long Street’s Turkish Baths
This is an ‘unheard of’ gem in winter in the City Centre. There’s a sauna, a steam room, a warm room and a cold pool in addition to showers and other bathroom facilities. Visit the MTN Science Centre
Who says a holiday can’t be a bit educational? The Science Centre have more than 250 interactive exhibits and puzzles. They are open from Monday to Sundays including public holidays and they also offer a family package entry fee, visit their website for more information! Do you love coffee as much as we do? There are a few things that are better than a delicious, hot, steamy cup of coffee when it’s pouring rain outside. Truth Coffee Roasting is located in Buitenkant Street and is known as the best and coolest coffee shop in the world and you also have the opportunity to take a tour of the roastery. There are loads more fantastic coffee shops in and around Cape Town whether you are looking for a cozy setting or just a to-go coffee, go and explore!
Visit Hout Bay Harbour Market
The Hout Bay Harbour Market offers a variety of stalls that will interest you from delicious foods to art and fashion. Enjoy a breakfast, lunch or dinner! They also have a Winter Friday Happy Hour from 5 to 6pm where you can buy a 500ml draught and pay only the 330ml price and 1/2 price on house wines!
Another fun activity to enjoy indoors is rock climbing at CityROCK, with hundreds of routes, overhanging climbing sections and over 450m² of climbing area, CityROCK is the largest of its kind in South Africa and is located in Observatory.
